MOLDOVA
Moldova has 10 times as much road as rail so has limited rail facilities but services go through to Odessa and Kyiv in Ukraine. They use the broad gauge Russian standard 1520mm, have no electric services and all lines are single track! Journey time to Bucharest from Chisinau is about 12 hours and to Odessa 3 hours
The Current Situation
As at June 2026 only the following rail services are running:-
INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS:
A daily night train from Chisinau across the border into Romania and thence onto Iasi, Ploesti and Bucharest. This also includes a portion from Kyiv and Balti. This provides a daytime service between Kyiv and Balti
The night train from Chisinau through Balti and across the border into Ukraine to Vinnitsia and Kyiv now operates operates daily in each direction
The service to Odessa is currently suspended.
One daily trains from Chisinau to Iasi Socola in Romania.
One daily train from Ungheni to Iasi (main station)
INTERNAL TRAINS:
There is an additional daily local service from Ungheni to Chisinau at 03.56 returning at 18.04
The local service from Bender to Chisinau is currently suspended
