LATVIA

Latvian Railways, Latvijas Dzelzcels, (see link below for international tickets) is a state-run operator, also with infrequent services except on a couple of routes. There are no open access operators. Domestic tickets can be bought on line from Pasazieru vilciens (see link below) who operate trains within Latvia . Return tickets save about 5%. The only international services (currently suspended) are a nightly sleeper service Riga-St Petersburg/Moskva (splits/joins at Orsha in Russia), a night sleeper Riga-Daugavpils-Minsk (Belarus) every 4 days, and a night sleeper service Riga-Vilnius (Lithuania)-Minsk (Belarus)-Kyiv (Ukraine), also every 4 days. Tickets can be ordered in advance by phone also for international services. Cycles require baggage ticket (very large baggage only) and must be booked on trains which do not have designated cycle holders (signs on coach doors relevant). Domestic interrail passes for Latvia are available to foreigners for 3,4,5,6,8 days in a month, with discounts for youths and those over 60.
